Text: Songs of Solomon 1:1-2
“The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.”
If you look at the text closely, you will see that the woman was desirous of more intimacy with her lover, because of how much love he has shown her. She describes the love as being more than wine.
But let me tell you, this is actually talking about the sweetness and compelling love of Jesus, that could make Him die for us. It was in the recognition of this, that Apostle Paul said: “If it seems that we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. … Whatever we do, it is because Christ’s love controls us…” (2 Corinthians 5:13-14 NLT). If the love of Christ is not compelling or controlling your actions, then, you are unappreciative of the sacrificial love of Jesus, which He demonstrated by His death for our sins.
Look at how His love for us is described by the Holy Spirit, through Apostle Paul: “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romance 5:7-8). No one who has truly experienced this love through salvation from sin, being truly born again, that will not be driven by it, as a reciprocal for His love.
We show our love to Him by not sinning, but pleasing to Him, obeying His word, worshipping Him in truth, sharing His love with others through evangelism and giving. Our love for Jesus should be so compelling that it overrides every selfish interest (John 21:15-17). Like Perer, Jesus is asking you, “Do you love me more than anything else?” If your answer is yes, show it in your actions.

May God deepen your understanding of the love of Christ for you, and cause you to be driven by it in all that you do for His glory, in the name of Jesus Christ.
