The Power of Light

Text: Psalm 139:11-12
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Light is not the absence of darkness, but rather, the subduing of darkness to none existence. Where and when light appears, darkness disappears. Darkness is subject to light.

In our text, you see how the power and influence of light over darkness is described. That, where God is, even if there was darkness, He shines as light, because darkness cannot hide from light. Remember, at creation, darkness was upon the earth, and God commanded that, there should be light, and there was light (Genesis 1:2-3). It is written: “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:5). Darkness cannot stand the presence of light.

It is on this note that, you are said to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). You are meant to be a dispeller of darkness. All the evils in the world, that represent darkness, are because the church has no light in it. You cannot have light, and it will not shine. No! It is automatic. Once light appears, darkness disappears.

Jesus said, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:4). With this mindset, no darkness, be it evil, sickness, and all the works of darkness, could stand His presence. So also, you are meant to be a dispeller of darkness, if, indeed, you are light. Light doesn’t run from darkness, but rather, subdues darkness.

Prayer:
I pray for you, that, your light shall not die, but keep shining and dispelling every form of darkness around you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
