Text: Isaiah 13:9-11
“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.”
Today may be your day and tomorrow, the day of the Lord. We are admonished not to harden our hearts while it is called today, because tomorrow may be too late (Hebrew 3:15). What does the Bible say you should do today? It says: “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
While today is the day for your repentance and salvation, tomorrow is the day of the Lord for judgment. What you do with your today will determine how you face His tomorrow. It is said that, “Every day is for the thief, but one day is for the owner”. Many people live as if they are the owners of their lives. They live without knowing that they are accountable to God. They live as if there is no tomorrow. They are evil, sinners, iniquitous, and arrogant. But the LORD said He will punish them on His own day, the day of the Lord. That punishment is judgment.
The Apostle Paul said: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences” (2 Corinthians 5:10-11).
To avoid the wrath and fierce anger of the LORD on that day of judgment is why we are calling all men and women to repent and embrace now the free salvation which Christ purchased for us with His blood, because tomorrow will be too late. Hear this: “And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not” (Luke 12::39-40).
